Based on the DNA fingerprints shown below, could these parents be the biological mother and father of this child? why or why not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think the answer might be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I said yes, because the dads and childs picture have similar looks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually to my knowledge so far, I know the procedure to preparing DNA fingerprints, but identifying the if the two individual is rather bit difficult...but yes you are right the Father and Child is related because there is not a single similarity whatsoever with the mother and the child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on...you see similarity with the father and child at the positive end of the picture right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now notice the upper part too. Look carefully.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at the very first band of the mother and the child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the thicker one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then move down to the fourth band of the Mother and then compare it with the child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So are they biological or not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simplest way to know: if you find a band that the child has, but NONE of its alleged parents, then you know that one of the parents isn't genetically related to the child. in this case: the parents' biological identity fits to the child.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now, why doesn't the child have all its parents' fingerprint bands? can you tell me that?
