how to solve x squared +14x-24=0 solve using the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

do you know quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When a quadratic equation is in the form: \[y=ax^{2}+bx+c\]Then you can solve it using the quadratic formula. The quadratic formula is:\[x= \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac}}{2a}\]And the equation you have is: \[0=x ^{2}+14x-24\]Therefore, you can plug in the values of a, b, and c from your equation into the quadratic formula and solve: \[x= \frac{-14 \pm \sqrt{14 ^{2}-4(1)(-24)}}{2(1)}\]Which finds your answer:\[-7 \pm \sqrt{73}\] Which can be found by factoring the square root and dividing -14 and sqrt(296) by 2. MAKE SURE YOU LEARN HOW TO DO THIS. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CONCEPTS IN HIGH SCHOOL MATH.
