MetroMedia Cable is asked to provide service to a customer whose house is located 2 miles from the road along which the cable is buried. The nearest connection box for the cable is located 5 miles down the road

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) if the installation cost is $500 along the road and $700 per mile off the road, build a model that expresses the total cost C of the installation as a function of the distance X in miles from the connection box to the point where the installation turns off the road. give the domain. B) compute the cost if X=1, X=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i can use the Pythagorean theorem but i am not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, so you know the installation cost $500 (for entire road) and you have the installation cost of $700 (per mile So your equation would be C=700x+500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if x =1 Then, C=700(1)+500 you can do the same for x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it is $500 per mile on the road which is 5 miles long and $700 per mile off the road and i have to write it as a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you meant in your question $500 (per mile) on road and $700 off road?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

@Sahil.n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, internet is a bit cloggy, bare with me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a problem i really need help so i can be patient haha thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first part of the equation is C=500x+ , I'm just trying to figure out the off road side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is where i am stuck is forming the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see, if you have a value for x for the first one, you could get the second part but you don't in this case :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would you format the equation with out the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the thing, without knowing the distance, I can't create the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what i have to solve for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright, since I'm stuck too, I guess you should repost your question and someone else might be able to help you :) sorry
