How do you know when to use the subtraction property of equality as a reason as opposed to subtraction of real numbers? @dan815

OpenStudy (dan815):

when you want to subtract same thing from both sides maybe? I dont understand the question

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

When you have an equation, and you subtract the same amount from both sides, then the reason is "Subtraction property of equality." When you actually do a subtraction, the reason is "Subtraction of real numbers."

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Here is an example of using both the "subtraction property of equality" and "subtraction of real numbers." |dw:1424879508644:dw|
