Plasma Membrane Function->Forms a barrier between the_________and its surroundings. Fill in the blank. @SolomonZelman @Somy

OpenStudy (somy):

what do u think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cell membrane?

OpenStudy (somy):

between cell membrane? really?

OpenStudy (somy):

Cell Membranes The boundary of the cell, sometimes called the plasma membrane, separates internal metabolic events from the external environment and controls the movement of materials into and out of the cell. This membrane is very selective about what it allows to pass through; this characteristic is referred to as "selective permeability." For example, it allows oxygen and nutrients to enter the cell while keeping toxins and waste products out. The plasma membrane is a double phospholipid membrane, or a lipid bilayer, with the nonpolar hydrophobic tails pointing toward the inside of the membrane and the polar hydrophilic heads forming the inner and outer surfaces of the membrane. source : https://archive.org/stream/ost-biology-human_physiology/Human_Physiology_djvu.txt

OpenStudy (somy):

what do u think now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it lipid bilayer?

OpenStudy (somy):

it is but its not what u fill in the blank

OpenStudy (somy):

read again dear

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry for the late reply, it is cytoplasm? Am i correct? @Somy

OpenStudy (somy):

pretty much though more suitable would be to say "internal content of the cell" or something of that nature

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is "internal content of the cell" ?

OpenStudy (somy):

you can say 'the inside of the cell' or 'internal environment' choose whichever you want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thnx a lot @somy :)

OpenStudy (somy):

no problem :)
