Mrs. Moser wanted to use the tile pattern shown here in her kitchen. The pattern will be repeated to cover the area on the wall between the kitchen counter and cabinets. Use the figure to answer each question. (a) Write a fraction, decimal, and percent that represent the part of the tiled area that has gray tiles. Explain your reasoning.

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Ok, @trinajoy what do you think is the answer?

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@trinajoy you first want to start off by counting how many tiles there is.

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

There are 12 tiles. the first question is to write a fraction, 3/12. Do you understand why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@vanessaperezxo

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

Do you understand? @trinajoy

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@trinajoy there are 3 grey tiles and 12 in total. So that is why it's 3/12.

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

@trinajoy The second question in to write the answer in a decimal. So divide 3/12

OpenStudy (vanessaperezxo):

What do you think is the answer to the second one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.25? @vanessaperezxo

Please help

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

To create a fraction, what you're going to do is count all the tiles that are shaded, and then count how many tiles there are all together. The numerator will be the amount of shaded tiles and the denominator will be the amount of tiles all together.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

So what would that fraction look like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Finally lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 3/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@k_lynn

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Yep, you got it :D. Now you need to create your decimal version of that fraction. That fraction sign also means to divide, so to figure out what the decimal form of 3/12 is, you just divide \[3\div12\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.25?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Know were good lol

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Fabulous! XD now all we need to do is find the percentage. Since percentages are out of 100, all we need to do is multiply 0.25 by 100, and then you'll get your percent! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25?

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

Yep, you got it! 25%. So your answers are: Fraction: \[\frac{ 3 }{ 12 }\]Decimal:\[.25\]Percentage:25%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait this might be easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we just completed 1
