OpenStudy (barreraa):

In November 1864 it was by no means a certainty that the Civil War would end soon or that Lincoln would win. Lincoln faced George McClellan who ran as the "peace candidate". Lincoln had sacked McClellan earlier in the war but even prior to that there had been disagreements between them in the way the war should be fought. There was still a lot of fighting to left at the time of the election, although by the time of the inauguration things had changed considerably and the Confederacy by then was virtually at a state of collapse. Lincoln used the address to remind people why the fight had been necessary. So the first theme to remind the people why the war needed to be fought and in Lincoln's address that was to protect the union and free people from slavery. The second theme was to "win the peace" that is to re-unite the nation or Lincoln put it to "bind up the nation's ills". This meant reconstructing the south.

this for the first question

OpenStudy (barreraa):

heres the second one

OpenStudy (barreraa):

He used biblical passages and the common band of brother and sisterhood to say and to show that we are indeed one nation. Lincoln quintessentially said no matter what side you were we all went through war, and the country is our home and it's our responsibility to rebuild our home. The message to take away from his second inaugural address, is that more can be done with an open hand an heart than tools and programs.

OpenStudy (barreraa):

Lincoln was trying to bring everyone together, he was basically saying that it didn't matter what side you were on they were all in war. they needed to come together and rebuild their home

OpenStudy (barreraa):

and thats the third one
