OpenStudy (juana02):

Why do you think the study of music history would be beneficial to the practicing musician (scholar, performer, composer and/or teacher)? Why might it be beneficial to a nonpracticing musician as a general education elective?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to see where music evolved

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also to see the different backgrounds of compositions... then applying that to the target audience when necessary...

probably to get there thought's out into the world to see if anyone agrees. lol i have no idea.

I believe the study of music history helps me with understanding what the composer would want me to play. Take Paganini as an example, he was one of the best soloists of his time. When I study his caprices I take his past as an example to put the emotion into the playing of them. It helps me get a feel of what they were feeling at the time. I believe it is important for any soloist.
