Ok, guys. Here is my suicide research paper. I need opinions !!
Trinity Bagwell Amy Lothian Arkansas Virtual Academy Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Suicide takes the lives of nearly 40,000 Americans every year. Depression is usually the start of the suicidal thoughts. Depression is a dark hole. Its easy to get into, hard to get out. I would think of it like smoking. At first, its disgusting. There is lost of coughing, and your breath smells gross. Then you try it again, again, and again. It gets to the point where it relieves you, calms your nerves. Then you try to stop. Its not nearly as easy as you thought. Depression is much like that, but you're always sad and there is a constant pain in your chest. You don't really want to live anymore at that point. You're miserable. Now, you're wondering what causes depression? Thats a good question. Depression means feelings of severe despondency and dejection. In another definition, is a long severe recession in an economy or market. The top two that are triggered to depression are hormones and life events. You may still be growing, and you have crazy thoughts to do in your head. You may feel happy and joyful one second then you want to get hit by a car and you're depressed. Everyone has experienced that at one point. Life events are even more harmful. Such as you dad leaves your mom, or your mom got arrested for drunk driving/drugs. Your brother died. Any kind of horrific life event will make you depressed for an amount of time. Especially if you dwell on it as in thinking 'Oh, I should've stayed that night' 'I should have been there for him' 'I wish I would've noticed'. Everyone eventually regrets not doing something about something for that someone. There are different kinds of depression. Nine different types, the most common types. Major Depression, Persistent Depressive Depression, Bipolar Depression, Seasonal Affective Depression (SAD), Psychotic Depression, Postpartum Depression, Premenstrual Dysphoric Depression, 'Situational' Depression, and Atypical Depression. I'm going to narrow our view to two big points. Major depression and bipolar depression. Major depression is a mood disorder having clinical course involving one or more episodes of serious psychological depression that last two or more weeks each, do not have intervening episodes of mania or hypomania, and are characterized by a loss of interest or pleasure in almost all activities and by some or all of disturbances of appetite, sleep, or psychomotor functioning, a decrease in energy, difficulties in thinking or making decisions, loss of self-esteem or feelings of guilt. Major Depression is one of the most common types of depression. The others are just as serious, but Major Depression could take a lot of therapy and medication to treat. Bipolar depression is often called “Manic Depression”, has mood episodes that range from extremes of high energy with an “up” mood to low “depressive” periods. When you're in the low phase, you'll have the symptoms of major depression. Bipolar Depression is dangerous because you could be sad for short periods of time but do drugs and get wasted to try to make yourself feel better when you're just fine. It wasn't even you, it was the Bipolar Depression. Now which do you think is the more severe depression? Lets dive into what brought you here. Suicide. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Depression often leads to suicide, if the victim doesn't go seek help. Each year, 34,000 people commit suicide, that is about as twice as many deaths as recorded homicides. There is about one death per 15 minutes. By 2030, depression will outpace cancer, stroke, war and accidents as the world's leading cause of disability and death, according to the World Health Organization. Each year over 150,000 youth receive treatment for self-inflicted wounds. Around ninety-five percent of people who commit suicide have a psychological disorder such as depression at the time of their suicide. Almost 5 thousand teenage and children lives are lost each year due to suicide. Almost half the suicides that occur are done using firearms with suffocation coming in at a close second and poison falling in at third. Around 16 percent of a survey of high schoolers reported that they considered suicide. About thirteen of those created a plan while about eighteen followed through within a year. Boys have a higher possibility of committing suicide. In 2013, the highest suicide rate (19.1) was among people 45 to 64 year olds. The second highest rate is 18.6, which occurred in those 85 years and older. Younger groups have had consistently lower suicide rates than middle-aged and older adults. Younger adults and adolescents aged 15-24 had a suicide rate of 10.9 in 2013. Gender wise, suicide rates have been 4 times higher amongst men than women. Men had a suicide rate of 20.2, while women had a suicide rate of 5.5 in 2013. Men died 77.9% and women died 22.1% in attempt suicide. Now, don't worry. There are things to do for depression. You can do things to prevent depression and suicide. First of all, if you suspect a child/adolescent/adult is experiencing depression, try to build up the relationship and get them to open up to you about what is causing them that pain. The sooner you get the problem out of them, the better they will feel. If thats not working very well, sign them up for a psychiatrist of therapist to talk about what is making them depressed. In addition, be observant – watchful and attentive to him/her. Don't give them advice. Listen to them. They don't want advice, they want to tell someone their problems so they can get it off their chest and feel a little better. If they ask for your input, you can tell them what you think. If you sense danger, immediately call the suicide hotline (1-800-273-TALK). Do not leave them alone if they feel the need to take their life. There are also other alternatives for them to take part. They can exercise and be positive. Smile. Instead of going to the razor for your problems. Paint a colorful picture with bright colors. There is always something else for them to do instead of end it all. Suicide is never the answer. There is so many other things to do than end your life. Don't run away from your problems. Problems are fixed. All you need is motivation and a good attitude to fix them. There is not one problem that has not been solved. If you think about it, suicide hurts people around you. They didn't notice that you were going though that much pain until the minute you were gone. In closing, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Never run to suicide because suicide won't fix the problem. It will dampen everyone around you because they didn't help or were unaware. Please, be strong and get help if you need it.

Great Job btw :3
This is great! It's a very well-written paper on a sad topic. However suicide is a big problem. I like the first sentence "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" It's true and more people need to know that before considering suicide. But you really made good points. About how depression is hard to get out of, it's like smoking, suicide is never the answer, talk to someone to get help. Good job! It's a very convincing paper.
