would you mind helping me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried to write a Thank-You e-mail to my Professor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -from my professor Dear G Thank you for your email. Sure, I would be more than happy to co-supervise you. Have you done any reading on VO2? Best regards, A ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -from me Dear Prof. A Thank you in advance for willing to be my co-supervisor. Yes, I have read some information regarding VO2. Based on what I've learned and discussed with Mr. Aziz, I tried to work on the kinetic term of the Hamiltonian for a VO2 system using tight-binding approximation. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to classify which orbital contributes to the pi-band and several other bands according to the graph I obtained from the calculation of DOS. In order to address this problem, I am planning to have a discussion with Mr. Aziz. Best regards, G Is this okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help me ensure I'm writing that right and polite

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, without pasting the last "is this okay" into the message, it is totally fine !! You can email quite fine, don't stress over a single message. JUST 1) Don't use a text language in a message. 2) Be specific and polite. 3) Proofread your message at least once, before sending, to correct spelling, the sentence structure and make it not hard to follow (cohesiveness). I don't see anything bad in the message. ONE THING THOUGH, I wouldn't call Professor "dear.

OpenStudy (arabpride):

This seems pretty good to me :3 It's short, yet precise, and that's always something one should attempt to have in a letter (in case of job resumes, application letters, etc.). Well done!

An example of my message to my (imaginary) professor Dr. Banas. (My name is Solomon, Zelman) ``` Hi, Dr. Banas ! (your message) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Best regards, Solomon Z. ```

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Or, ``` Hi ! Dr. Banas you - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thanks for your assistance once again, Solomon Z. ```

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

I mean there are millions of ways to start and end.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and sorry, in my lest example, a comma after Banas.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Just, don't call your teacher "dear" - it is equivalent to calling him/her "cute". A teacher can call you deal, but not vice versa.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

dear, not deal... typo

OpenStudy (arabpride):

Lolz, Yes^ agreed x3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok @SolomonZelman thank you for your advice!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you @arabpride and @SolomonZelman :)

OpenStudy (arabpride):

No Problem! :3
