For y = 4x + 2x2 – x3, show how to find the value for y, when x = 2. Show your work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you clarify the question, please? When reading the problem, there is a few errors. Did you mean --\[y=4x+2x^2-x^3\] the way you have it written, it looks like y=4x+ (2*2)-x(3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iGreen, I think you'd be better at helping her than I would.

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(4(2) + 2(2)^2 – (2)^3\) Simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (igreen):

What's 4 * 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would be 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2(2) which = 2*2 would equal to 4 right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sari, For every x you see in the problem, replace it with the number 2. so its going to look like this \[4(2)+2(2)^2-2^3\] so, you should be able to go from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sari, 4(2) just means Four times two. so. 4(2)= 8 2(2)^2 is equal to 8 aswell, and so is 2^3. so, youre left with 8+8-8. I think you can handle that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8+8-8=8 correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. You got it :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what's the aswer 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean y=8

syed98 (syedmohammed98):

You are correct :)

thank you
