. The map above shows the shoreline of the Aral Sea in 1960, 1973, 1989, and 2003. In the 1960s, the Soviet Union began diverting water from the Aral Sea for use in cotton farming. Cotton production more than doubled as land that had been desert became agriculturally productive. Once the fourth largest lake on Earth, the Aral Sea is now less than 10% its original size, and experts are unsure if the damage to the area could ever be reversed. In addition, industries such as fishing have been destroyed and communities near the sea have problems accessing fresh water. B

In addition, industries such as fishing have been destroyed and communities near the sea have problems accessing fresh water. Based on the map and passage, the problems facing the Aral Sea demonstrate that the changes to the Aral Sea will be easily reversed if the rivers are diverted back to their original courses. the irrigation of farmland is often more important than maintaining a fishing industry or access to fresh water. human changes harm not only the physical environment but also have consequences to other human activities. pumping water from seas or lakes rather than diverting rivers will have much less impact on the physical environment.

Is this for Earth Science? There actually is a section for that... or are you looking at it from the English side for the meaning?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

acctly this is history

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Hehe... So lets look at it in parts. The map above shows the shoreline of the Aral Sea in 1960, 1973, 1989, and 2003. OK In the 1960s, the Soviet Union began diverting water from the Aral Sea for use in cotton farming. So, they changed the water flow. Cotton production more than doubled as land that had been desert became agriculturally productive. One thing this did. Once the fourth largest lake on Earth, the Aral Sea is now less than 10% its original size, and experts are unsure if the damage to the area could ever be reversed. Another thing it did. In addition, industries such as fishing have been destroyed and communities near the sea have problems accessing fresh water. Another thing it did. So, which of those answers seems to match up with those events?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

For example, looking at "the changes to the Aral Sea will be easily reversed if the rivers are diverted back to their original courses" well, the paragraph says " experts are unsure if the damage to the area could ever be reversed. " so does that confirm or eliminate that answer?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

okay

OpenStudy (bohotness):

i think eliminate d ?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, d is not even referenced in any way. What about a? Did that confirm or eliminate it?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

elimate it i think

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

OK. So two toast, two left.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

the irrigation of farmland is often more important than maintaining a fishing industry or access to fresh water. So does it say it was more inportant? OR human changes harm not only the physical environment but also have consequences to other human activities. Does it say that one change caused many things?

OpenStudy (bohotness):

2 one i think

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, I feel that way too. It is obviouls that the choice made says the farmland was important, but the actual words never make that clear. On the other hand, it is very clear from what was said that there was more than one result of what they did caused a lot of environmental damage and ruined other human activities.

OpenStudy (bohotness):

thank you XDDDDDDDD
