The graph below shows the velocity of a person (y), in km/h, at a certain time (x), in hours:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of the following statements best describes the person's velocity? (A) It is decreasing in the interval 2 < x < 4. (B) It is decreasing in the interval 3 < x < 4. (C) It is increasing in the interval 2 < x < 4. (D) It is increasing in the interval 3 < x < 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is D

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why? Thinking, not box checking, is important.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think this because x = 3 and x =4 and they increase from 3 to 4

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Describe the slope of the four regions: (0,2) (2,3) (3,4) (4,6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope = 1/2

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That's one region. The sign of the slope will be sufficient. What is the sign of the slope in all four regions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

positive

@tkhunny

can u help @c0decracker

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Why are you not answering my questions? What is the sign of the slope in ALL FOUR regions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did answer your question. I said that I think the slope is positive and sorry if it's wrong. I don't understand this question and that's why I posted it on OpenStudy. I didn't come here to get reprimanded for not answering the questions correctly.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You are not reprimanded for anything. You just haven't answered the question. The sign of the slope in each of the four important regions: (0,2) -- Zero (2,3) -- Negative (3,4) -- Positive (4,6) -- Zero This is all I am asking. You could have done that. And we see that D is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't know that you wanted the answer like that. Thank you anyways

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Just answer the question. That's all it takes. You were so focused on (3,4) that you were not willing to answer questions about the other regions. Keep an open mind. Just answer that question when you get one.
