@sleepyhead314

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

have you heard of a method called FOIL? :) First Outer Inner Last

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but I always mess it up :-/ would it be v^2-4v-8v+32?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

(v)*(v) + (v)*(8) + (-4)*(v) + (-4)(8) very close, try again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v^2 +8v-4v-32?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

good! now just add like terms for the middle two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so v^2 + 4v-32?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

yup! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome I have more if you don't mind? :)

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

sure, just tag me again :)

Hi, So in order to do this problem, you need to multiply first terms with first terms and second terms with second terms. So, (v+4)(v-8) our first term is v. So "v" x "v" will get us v^2 then v x 8 gets us -8v We'll have v^2+8v. Then we have to do the same with the second terms. 4 x v gives us 4v and 4x8 gives us 32. So we'll get: v^2+4v-32 as our final answer.
