rom the attachment below: What is the following from the reading Hypothesis: Foundation for the project: Methods: Quality of methods: Conclusions and implications:

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

http://www.pnas.org/content/111/28/10239.abstract

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@Yolo4mecuite @horsegirl27 @Khet @ElonaSushchik

OpenStudy (nermaljean99):

Dude thats a lot of reading...

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i know

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Do you think you can help me

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

I really appreciate it

OpenStudy (nermaljean99):

I can try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry toxicsugar, but I am going to bed. I'm getting a headache just looking at that :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill try to help

OpenStudy (nermaljean99):

Sorry computer froze up... Uhhh... I have my own paper to write...But if no one else can help you message me and I will try my best

OpenStudy (anonymous):

god so much reading

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

@Data_LG2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have you read it ?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

yes i have

OpenStudy (anonymous):

before we determine the hypothesis, first we have to determine the goal/aim/purpose of this research... i'm still trying to read it, but I think it will be faster if you provide me some info so that we can start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay that's great.. so maybe you can tell me the purpose of the research? what are they trying to solve here?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

the artlice is about pollution

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

and about Plastic debris in the ocean

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Isn't the goal of this article To Synthetize data collected across the world to provide a global map and a first-order approximation of the magnitude of the plastic pollution in surface waters of the open ocean.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

I got the info in the first paragraph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, good that's a good start. that's perfect! now we have to determine the hypothesis or their prediction. what do you think their thoughts before they did the experiment? what are their expectations about the results that they are going to achieve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm still reading it, so i may take a while.. if you know the answers to my questions you can just post it and i'll check it later

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

To measure how much there plastic pollution there is in the ocean. Right that would be a hypothesis. We just paraprase the goal right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, that's the aim/goal. hypothesis and goal are different. the hypothesis is like a prediction... are they expecting too much plastic? read paragraph 3 you'll find the hypothesis there

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Is the hypothesis The light weight and durability of plastic materials make them suitable for a very wide range of products. However, the intense consumption and rapid disposal of plastic products is leading to a visible accumulation of plastic debris

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

its in pargraph 3

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

I also found this Indeed, high concentrations of floating plastic debris have been reported in central areas of North Atlantic and Pacific the Oceans, but oceanic circulation models suggest possible accumulation regions in all five subtropical ocean gyres . I dont know if this is one also

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of not really, the 2nd post is the result but it also mentioned the predicted outcome (hypothesis)...i'll give an example of hypothesis... "Since today is very cloudy, there's a chance that it will rain tonight" in this sentence i'm predicting that the rain will come. in the 3rd paragraph, the models that are listed (1 , 2, 3) were used to predict that (read the last sentence-the hypothesis-hint: "PREDICT" )

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

The models predict that these large-scale vortices act as conveyor belts, collecting the floating plastic debris released from the continents and accumulating it into central convergence zones.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes (: that would be it... just rephrase it based from what you understand

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

but can i put the other two or no

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

how can i reprase it, cause its tough

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we'll leave the 2nd one for the conclusion/implication but for the first one, maybe we can use it for the foundation of the project

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

can you help me rephrase it

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

oh ok so we found the concusion/implication and the foundation for the project

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just scan through the reading so i'm honestly don't understand this research project. I'm just analyzing what you are telling and me and checking it we're not sure yet about the foundation of the project, i have to double check it give me a moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me just do some recap: Goal: To provide a first-order approximation of the load of plastic debris in surface waters of the open ocean. To provide insight into the nature of possible losses of floating plastic from the open ocean surface. Hypothesis: Large-scale vortices act as conveyor belts, collecting the floating plastic debris released from the continents and accumulating it into central convergence zones. Fundamentals of the experiment: I think this would be either the 3 models used OR the reasons why the are doing the experiment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i think they are the 3 models stated in paragraph 3 because they are also reasons why they are doing the experiments (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's just point out which is which first, before you rephrase them cause i'm getting sleepy now ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sounds okay?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

Now we found the primary goal and the hypothesis Foundation for the project: Methods: Quality of methods: Conclusions and implications:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

foundations for the project will be the fundamentals of the experiment now we'll do the methods

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

So is the foudation for the project the three models stated in paragraph 3

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

so would they be the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the oceanic circulation model

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

just so i get the foundation of the project

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Intense consumption and rapid disposal of plastic products leading to a visible accumulation of plastic debris and Plastic pollution reaches the most remote areas of the planet, including the surface waters of the open ocean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not 100% sure though

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

that is the foundation of the project

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, when is the due date for this?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

TOMMOROW W

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i'll stay a bit longer @_@

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now let's move on to the methods

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

SO THE foundation for the project is not the three models that are in paragraph 3 likeNorth Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the oceanic circulation model

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

is it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this what I think: Intense consumption and rapid disposal of plastic products leading to a visible accumulation of plastic debris and Plastic pollution reaches the most remote areas of the planet, including the surface waters of the open ocean.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

ok now we have the Ok now we have the Methods: Quality of methods: Conclusions and implications:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, yes, yes... methods, which part do you think is the method?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

A method is a procedure right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes right (:

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

open the article site and go scroll all the way down to where it says Material and Methods Im not sure if the answer is in there

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

http://www.pnas.org/content/111/28/10239.full

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i have the copy with me.. can you tell me the specific paragraph?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

scroll down to wear the tillte says Material and Methods

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i think the answer is in there

OpenStudy (anonymous):
