In 565, the Byzantine Empire included parts of Spain, but in 1020 it did not. In 565, the Byzantine Empire included Constantinople, but in 1020 it did not. In 565, the Byzantine Empire included Asia Minor, but in 1020 it did not. In 565, the Byzantine Empire included southern Italy, but in 1020 it did not.

I would go with the mediterranean sea because the empire is surrounding it therefore contolling it.
