Given f(x) = x + 7 and (g)x = x - 3, what is f(x) + g(x)?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hello Miss Harley :) \[\Large\rm \color{orangered}{f(x)=x+7}\]\[\Large\rm \color{royalblue}{g(x)=x-3}\] \[\Large\rm \color{orangered}{f(x)}+\color{royalblue}{g(x)}=\color{orangered}{x+7}+\color{royalblue}{x-3}\]

zepdrix (zepdrix):

From there, we just need to combine like-terms. First part make sense? We're just putting x+7 in place of f(x) and doing similar with g(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello, thanks for helping me! yes, that does make sense! since we're combining like terms, i'd combine x and x to get 2x, right? and then combine positive 7 and negative 3 to get positive 4?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\Large\rm =2x+4\]Yayyyy good job \c:/

aaah thanks so much! it's very simple once you walk through it! i appreciate the help!
