Hi, I'm new here and I need help with this math problem What is the scale factor for the similar figures? A. 4 B. 3/2 C. 2/3 D. 1/4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

notice how the "8 cm" corresponds to the "2 cm" you divide the two (new/old) to get 2/8 = 1/4 essentially you multiply EVERY dimension of the old figure by 1/4 to get the new dimensions

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can also use the 12 and 3 new/old = 3/12 = 1/4 and you get the same answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 can you go through that slowly

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

where are you stuck?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't get it when you said to multiply every dimension by 1/4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you multiplied 12 by 1/4, you would get 3 1/4 = 0.25 so if you multiplied 12 by 0.25, you get 3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

multiply 8 by 0.25 and you get 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, ok. I get it. Thank you! :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
