What is the equation of the trend line? (Round the slope to the nearest hundredth.) A. y = −1.38x + 10 B. y = −0.73x + 10 C. y = −5.50x + 10 D. y = −0.18x + 10

OpenStudy (amorfide):

You would draw a triangle, and use m=y/x |dw:1426266031142:dw| you would work out the height of the vertical line, and divide that height by the height of the horizontal line in your case m=10/13.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would the answer be? @amorfide

OpenStudy (amorfide):

i just gave you the answer, use your calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it gave me 0.74? thats not in the answer choices though

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

use the 2 sets of points given in the graph to find the slope slope formula : slope(m) = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) (0,10)....x1 = 0 and y1 = 10 (11,2)...x2 = 11 and y2 = 2 now we sub slope(m) = (2 - 10) / (11 - 0) slope(m) = -8/11 = - 0.727 rounded = -0.73 now use y = mx + b slope(m) = -0.73 use either of your points (0,10) y = mx + b 10 = -0.73(0) + b 10 = b so your equation is : y = -0.73x + 10

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you have any questions at all ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope that was super helpul! thanks so much!!

*helpful

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

:)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

#1, 10 and 14 are not that far apart. This rules out C and D immediately. #2, It's obviously negative. Unfortunately, they all are. #3, 10/14 = 0.71 14/10 = 1.40 So, both A and B are still plausible. #4, Slope is Rise/Run, so we're going to have to go with B. The real difficulty, here, is the lack of complete information. While (11,2) is labeled, it's not clear it's actually on the line. @texaschic101 assumed it was on the line. That may be a reasonable assumption. @amorfide was assuming the x-intercept was 13.5. I was using 14. Both are reasonable approximations to an actually unknown value. Sometimes, judgment is called for. Okay, all the time!

Thanks for the explanation! you g=two are really helpful

*two GAH why can't i spell today?!
