Medal A personal trainer has a supply of weight plates to make custom dumbbells to use for weight-training. The trainer adds 16 1/14 pounds of plates to each side of the dumbbell bar, which itself weighs 2/1/2 pounds. Write a ratio comparing the weight added to each side of the dumbbell bar to the weight of the bar itself, using a fraction in simplest terms.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

weight added to sides : weight of bar (16 1/4)(2) : 2 1/2 --- turn to improper fractions (65/4)(2) : (5/2) (130/4) : (5/2) (65/2) : (5/2) but ratios can be written as fractions (65/2) / (5/2) 65/2 * 2/5 130/10 which reduces to 13/1 I think thats how you do it...but you might want to get a second opinion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 13/1?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I think so...but like I said, you might want to wait and get a second opinion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

don't thank me yet...lol

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

@amorfide ...did I do this correctly ? I think so, but I need confirmation

OpenStudy (amorfide):

I thought the same but was not too sure if it were correct but I agree with your method until someone would like to dispute it :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok...thanks...I feel better now...lol
