Fungi cannot make their own food through photosynthesis. How do they take in nutrients? @pooja195

OpenStudy (shadeyghost):

Lol, i like how veterans like you don't even look for the same question. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/532ef7a0e4b01b050103a0f3

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

Veterans like me want explanations. smh

OpenStudy (shadeyghost):

They absorb nutrients with their hyphae. These hyphae secrete digestive enzymes in the soil which breaks down the fungi's food so it can be absorbed.

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

@shadeyghost Why cant they absorb nutrients the way plants do? What causes them to have to use the alternative method.

OpenStudy (shadeyghost):

The reason they use this alternative method is because, unlike plants, fungi do not have chlorophyll.

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

Thanks a lot! You just saved my behind. :D

OpenStudy (shadeyghost):
