The area of a rectangular garden is given by the trinomial x^2+6 – 27. What are the possible dimensions of the rectangle? Use factoring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+9 and x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no is there a x+9 and x-6 option?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no theres

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+9 x-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah sorry thats what I meant.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that one is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

The area of a rectangular garden is given by the trinomial x^2+x-30. What are the possible dimensions of the rectangle? Use factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(for the next question post it in a new thread) what do you think is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+6 x+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. one of them has to be negative.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x-6 x+5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+6 x-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. do you know why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that one was a guess

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so the numbers need to mulitply together to become the last term in the problem in this case -30. the negative tells you that one of the numbers need to be negative. those two numbers also have to add together to be the middle term in this case 1. 6+(-5) is and and 6*-5 is -30. sorry if that was confusing..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh no i get it ci thought it was because of -30 but i wasnt sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good :). I can only help with one more question then I have to go.
