OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Which rectangular equation is equivalent to the polar equation r cos(theta)=-2?

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

r cosθ = −2 I think the answer is: B. x = −2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, this goes back to what we worked on yesterday

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Ok thanks I was just wondering why its x=-2 and not y=-2 I just got confused by that?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

because x = r*cos(theta) y = r*sin(theta)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x and cos correspond y and sin correspond

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

think of the unit circle

OpenStudy (kj4uts):

Ok thank you :)
