I think it is in step 2 because she add $70.99..am just checking if am on the right track

563blackghost (563blackghost):

I would say Step 3...... the equation is in Brackets but there is a parenthesis in the brackets so we do 65.5 + 70.99 which equals 136.49 now we need to subtract that total with 12.25.....in Step 3 it didnt do that....instead it divided 12.25 with 1/4 which is incorrect and does not follow BPEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it. didn't look at it like that. thanks

Rusty's hair grows at the rate of 1 over 4 inch per month. How many months will it take Rusty's hair to grow 5 over 8 inch? Explain your answer using expressions and words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8 this is how i did it

563blackghost (563blackghost):

\[\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }=\frac{ 2 }{ 8 }\] but the problem says per month so there is no addition in the problem....so we would have to divide\[\frac{ 5 }{ 8 }\div \frac{ 2 }{ 8 }\] it would be best if you turned these fractions into a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

563blackghost (563blackghost):

We divide because we want to know the PER MONTH total so the equation would be TOTAL/AMOUNT=PER MONTH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.039

563blackghost (563blackghost):

\[\frac{ 5 }{ 8 }=.625,\frac{ 2 }{ 8 }=.25\] \[.625\div.25=2.5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

always best to work with decimal in cases like these?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

when you divide fractions its best

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would take 2.5 months

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yup

Almost 9 over 11 of the total electricity supplied to a town is used in farms and houses. Use long division to determine the decimal equivalent of 9 over 11. Use words to explain if the decimal terminates or repeats.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

last one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dividing 9/11 would equal 0.8181 and it will repeat, this would labeled as an rational number .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is what i did

563blackghost (563blackghost):

That looks right to me xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks a lot for your patient and help

563blackghost (563blackghost):
