What were the causes of the development of New England's textile industry?

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

New England doesn't have many long navigable rivers like the South. Those rivers were good for building water powered textile mills though. New England also doesn't have very good soil for growing plantations full of cash crops. Most people who wanted to make a living farming moved to other parts of the country. The people there were ready to get other jobs. So when the industrial revolution came around, the ideas appealed to the people living there. New England got a large amount of immigrants too. The population was larger, so there were people to work in the industry.
