I use to hunt on my parent's property, in the 60's, 80's and 90's, and discovered a tree, about 2-3 ft in diameter, with a vine, about 1 and half in at base, spiraling up. It seemed like just a nice symbiodic relationship, each supplying its own leaves and fruits to nurture their roots. The tree most likely could of existed on it's own but with the vine it thrived. Sadly the vine couldn't because without the tree to support it from the ground it would rot. I only mention this because Christ is sometime considered a vine, which would wither and die without God the Father.
Remember what Christ said in the Gospels, with God all is possible.
Exodus Chapter 20 through 23 is known as the Covenant. Exodus Chapter 20 contains 14 Commandments, but that is not what I'm going to cover here. Exodus Chapter 22 verse 28, Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people. Exodus Chapter 23 verse 2, Thou shalt follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment Most would consider this "a lynch mob" or "mob rule", but in a democracy society it may be majority rule. Therefore one who has a Judaic Christian outlook must make their decisions on right and wrong from their scriptural understanding not by Governmental decree. In doing this I think you'll find your will within any Governmental decree. If you read Judges, specifically the last chapter, you'll discover what happens when there is no Government and certain individuals create chaos. The question of whether one should vote or nor is a personal one, I registered to vote in 1991 for a local referendum and then in the presidential election in 1992, I was 41 years old. In 1996 I did not like what the press did and didn't vote since. Under the voting laws I'm not registered any more and must reregister to vote, I doubt if I ever will.
