The Crusades were an attempt by Europe to control the Holy Land or what we call today the middle east. The stakes are a little different because oil is involved. After WWII the west used the United Nations to establish the state of Israel. It gave the Jews a homeland and got the out of Europe. (the ones that Hitler didn't kill. Seemed like a good idea. But it's a version of the Crusades. The US and Europe support Israel. It's a tiny little country that we spend a lot of money helping to protect. It's a democracy and is a thorn in the side of the Muslim countries. Sounds a lot like the Crusaders and the crusader states they established there. Israel is Jewish, not Christian, but it's similar in a lot of characteristics. Your #9 asks about specific authors. I don't have access to that writing. But you can figure it out by looking at which side they seem to be writing from. A Christian author from 1100 for instance would favor the crusaders, an arab writer might not like the crusaders so much '
