How does the U.S. Supreme Court affect the rights of citizens? It can take away the rights of citizens by ruling laws unconstitutional. It can rule laws unconstitutional that violate rights protected in the Constitution. It can make decisions in cases that only some citizens must follow. It can create new rights for citizens through approval of new laws.

More Specifically: Judicial review allows the courts to evaluate laws, policies, Executive Orders and US treaties relevant to cases before the court to ensure they're constitutional. The Supreme Court, as the highest appellate court in the federal Judicial Branch, has final authority to determine a law's constitutionality and to overturn, or nullify, any that don't comply with Constitutional principles
