3 QUESTIONS ABOUT TRANSFORMATIONS!!!

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

Which translation rule describes the translation that is 6 units to the right and 5 units down. a. (x, y) (x + 6, y – 5) b. (x, y) (x – 6, y –5) c. (x, y) (x + 6, y + 5) d. (x, y) (x – 6, y + 5)

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

@Loser66 @zepdrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

OpenStudy (lilshane):

yes b is correct

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

Okay. Next question Write a rule to describe the transformation that is a reflection across the y-axis. a. (x, y) --> (x, –y) b. (x, y) --> (–x, y) c. (x, y) --> (–x, –y) d. (x, y) --> (y, x)

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

And B is not correct @lilshane and @TaigaA its A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b was my best answer

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

@confluxepic please help me

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

If it's a reflection across the y-axis then the x-coordinates would be multiplied by -1. If it's a reflection across the x-axis then the y-coordinates would be multiplied by -1.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@ayyookyndall

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

This might help too. http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/geometry/gt1/reflect.htm

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

I think it talks about the problem ahead.. So I think the answer is A

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

@confluxepic

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

The first or the second?

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

The first question is correct, right?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Nope.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

B is wrong for the first.

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

Whaat? How so?

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

I said A though for the first question...

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Then it's right. I saw that other people said B and you went with them.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

If you really think A then it's good.

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

No, I told both of them they are wrong. lol

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

And for the second question its A too, correct?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

No.

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

So its correct?

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

How so?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

It wouldn't be A. Read this. \(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @confluxepic If it's a reflection across the y-axis then the x-coordinates would be multiplied by -1. If it's a reflection across the x-axis then the y-coordinates would be multiplied by -1. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

So its D?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Since we have to reflect across the y-axis you would multiply x by -1.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

What? How'd you get D?

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

Sorry, another girl helped me on this and we got D. I thought she was wrong.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

So we have (x, y). We multiply x by -1. It would become (x(-1), y). What is (x)(-1)?

OpenStudy (ayyookyndall):

Oh, I get it, it would be B...

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

@TheSmartOne Am I doing it correct?

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Yes. @ayyookyndall

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

B would be right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like i said B was my best answer i go with what my gut tells me i came up with b. (x, y) (x – 6, y –5) and it was wrong i probably put everything together the wrong way..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everyone makes mistakes anyways i don't see what's wrong there then. Goodbye have a nice day everyone :D

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

You had to do x+6. @TaigaA

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright thank you, have a nice rest of the day @confluxepic

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

You too.
