OpenStudy (dtan5457):

How should I simplify this trig problem?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

\[\frac{ \csc^2x-\cot^2x }{ \sin(-x)cotx }\]

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

@mathmath333 @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

start with \(1+cot^2x=csc^2x\)

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

also sin(-x)=-sin(x)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

so \[\frac{ 1 }{ -\sin(x)cotx }\]

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

yea and 1/cot(x)=?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

well i can put as cos/sin

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

that works \(\dfrac{1}{-\sin(x)*\dfrac{\cos x}{\sin x}}\)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

so i get -sinx(cosx)/sinx, the sins cross out and i'm left with 1/-cosx?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

with is also -sec?

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

yea

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

thank you :)
