Any advice for presenting? I have bad social anxiety when it comes to presenting and I have a music presentation tomorrow, we did a ppt on a band we like and described the elements of music for that band.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

present your thing to the mirror pretend you are presenting to the mirror when you present to the class ignore the class and don't really think about being stared at thinking just makes you more paranoid and scared :P ignore everyone and talk to the wall - that's what I do xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You! :)

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Don't think just do

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

lol i have a speech tomorrow and i am practicing talking to the mirror in my bathroom

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

I wish you the absolute best of luck. I had similar problems like you, but overtime I've been able to ease them greatly, to the point where I don't really mind volunteering to present. Only solution: Keep presenting, you'll get "numb" or "desensitized" of this fear overtime.

pooja195 (pooja195):

I would say picture everyone in their underwear xD it helps :) Good Luck!

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Just remember that everyone else is more than likely just as nervous, wheather they appear to show it or not. They are in no better position :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks guys! :)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

No problem, any more doubts? :)

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

look at steve jobs and do what he does keep it simple, maintain eye contact, and be interesting, dont rea off of paper

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

LOL if you want to go to the lengths of steve jobs, then go for it xD

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

I was thinking of starting off a bit calmer and easy, but hey, I could be wrong :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First off, practice in front of a mirror. When the real times comes, imagine your talking to a wall. Present your speech and forget about people staring at you. If you picture that people are looking at you, you will get scared and worried. When I used to make presentations, I ignore ALL the people and 'present' :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Picture that all the people are not real. lol

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

You know what I do? I focus on the fact that I know my audience very well and that they don't really care what comes out of my mouth. The only person that pays attention to what I say is the one grading it, the teacher. XD

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Plus, I think about the future. 20 years from now, the people that watched you aren't going to be like, "Oh, I remember \(her\) speech from high school!" X)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Very well said :)

"Fake it till you make it" :)

Too bad it is tomorrow... well, I will give you some advice for the next time. One of the big concerns people have is feeling like they are unready. So make sure to get ready, work out the timing, and practice. If possible, practice some in front of relatives. This will get you some audience practice without as much stress. Then, see if you can find a few classmates to practice in front of and return the favor for them. That way you will build up some resistance as well as have some people to talk to when you present in front of the whole class. You want people to feel some eye contact in a proper presentation. So looking down at your notes all the time is a bad idea. Work hints into the slides, if you have them, in the form of summary lines and pictures. Have small note cards with a hint line. Practice using these tools and have a good feel for what you talk about. Then making sure to look at the audience as much as possible is easier to do. Then, as you work through the material, you become comfortable with this whole process and the final delivery is easy. In college you typically get called on a class or two every semester to do presentations of some sort. Why? Because it is something you need to learn for working in teams at any job. A some point in your work life you will need to tell your coworkers or boss something important and presentation skills will help for doing that. The earlier you get used to this, the better you will do in college.

OpenStudy (matt6288):

imagine everyone naked..or just think to yourself whats more important a good grade for a strong presentation or what the people in the class think of you. your never going to see anyone after it all and its most likely they don'

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

take eric's advice..that will help

one of my classmates froze when giving a talk in our public speaking class. i kind of coached him out of it by asking him a few questions about what he had been talking about. once his mind became more focused on the topic he was able to get thru the rest of it. focus on your material and dont worry about anything else and youll do fine.
