What is the value of the first quartile (Q1) of the data set?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Firat find the median of your numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

61?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, now take only the numbers less than the median, and find the median out of those

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like add them? or what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, just take away the number bigger than the median. so now you only look at 45, 51,52,and 58 and find the median

OpenStudy (anonymous):

52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's actually 51.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i was counting 61 thats why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you don't include 61 in this set. So you end up with 51 and 52 for the median, so you go in the middle,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there you go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much!!!!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

to double chk 9 data points, divided by 4 is: 1Q = 2.something so we round up to 3 and pick the 3rd value

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we had ended up with say 1Q = 2, then we would have had to average the 2nd and 3rd values.
