thermal energy is caused by the motion of?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. mixing water molecules contained in a beaker b. molecules in solid, liquid, and gas phases c. mixing two different molecules together d. molecules that have reached equilibrium

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm leaning towards D what about you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought it would be b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm these just seem like weird answer choices to me lemme check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thermal Energy, also known as random or internal Kinetic Energy, due to the random motion of molecules in a system. Matter exists in three states: solid, liquid, or gas. When a given piece of matter undergoes a state change, thermal energy is either added or removed but the temperature remains constant. When a solid is melted, for example, thermal energy is what causes the bonds within the solid to break apart.

Yeah I guess it could be B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I think it's B too now since thermal equilibrium is when two objects are at the same temperature

Ok thanks :)
