OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know you can graph a linear inequality on the coordinate plane. into how many parts does a inequality divide the plane? explain the significance of each part. (hint you can use the inequality y>4x-3 as an example)

OpenStudy (ivancsc1996):

Well, in your example, the equality would say y=4x+3, which is the equation for a line. In general, every linear inequality has an associated linear equality which defines a line, cutting the plane into two parts. Then the points satisfying the inequality will be either above or below the line. In your case, you have a > which means you want the points above the line. Graphically you would have|dw:1427747886035:dw|
