Why are the twenties are sometimes called an "age of prosperity"? Incomes throughout the United States grew and the middle class held most of the wealth. Most people were able to purchase cars and many families had more than one. The GNP rose dramatically and the United States changed from a debtor nation to a creditor nation. Although the GNP grew modestly, unemployment reached new lows.
Well I learned that the twenties are called "an age of prosperity" because the nation's economy reached astounding production, consumption, and stock market records, rendering the severe postwar recession a bad memory, except, unfortunately, for farmers, working-class laborers, and African Americans and other minorities. I think the best answer would be C, hopefully I'm right.
ok Thank Your :D
Any time. :3
But I have a doubt, the 20s were before the great depression so how is it possible that they rose during the 20s???
Well, the 1920s, in other words the Roarin' Twenties was when a lot of people were happy (except the farm workers and poor people basically). The Roarin' Twenties was actually a time where there was a rapid change of artistic innovation and high-society antics. There was new technology, higher wages, more leisure, and more products in the form of entertainment (movies, music, etc...). Some say that this all happened because of the Second Industrial Revolution and many say it happened because of Henry Ford's improvement of the assembly line and his automobiles. Other things that have caused and happened in the Roaring Twenties is the modernization of cities, the creation of the suburbs, airplane travel becoming more popular, the glamorous Hollywood, and the radio and music (Jazz age).
The Great Depression started in 1929. Remember how I told you the Gross National Product of the US went up during the '20s? Well during the G. Depression, dropped by 15% in three years and profits dropped and the economy just went horrid BECAUSE of the stock market crash of October 29, 1929.
your explanation leads me to believe the answer is A
And the G. Depression effected not only the poor with unemployment, but everyone.
Well @Daniellelovee , A is somewhat correct. Incomes through out the United States did grow, but to be honest, I'm not sure that the middle class held most of the wealth. But I'm not sure, so you might be right. I would say, go with your gut, because it's almost always right.
C was just my best guess, could be wrong. :)
Hope you get an A. :3
aww thank you ^.^
