Just a Quick Question about the OS rule "must be 13".
Hmm :)
yes?
NOPE 13\(\huge\color{green}{+}\)
That rule is suppose to be applied to kids like from k-5th but what if their 12 and their in 7th grade O_O in 7th grade is when I got pre-algebra
Is there an acceptation? there are students that are 12 and in high school.
@Nnesha just in case u think it's me, its not xD preetha has seen my ID already.
That I know of, there is not an exception. It is a $16,000 fine if users under 13 are found using the site and they are not suspended immediately.
no no let them do some work in school if someone give them direct answer they will be happy with it idt so they gonna ask for explanation
@sleepyjess O_O how come?
COPPA violation
no if they find the user and dont ban them
thats a pretty high fine...
Exactly
It is, that's why we don't want them getting the site fined.
If you want to know more about why, @e.mccormick knows more about it than I do.
so... if OS gets fined... it might close down?
Probs
If they get fined enough, yes
16k is a lot. So probably.
Here is a news bit on when the government did a COPPA fine: http://www.adweek.com/socialtimes/yelp-pays-450000-ftc-fine-coppa-violation/204977 They dig through everything. Now, OpenStudy's rules clearly state they are for 13+, so they have a good deal of legal protection. They are not targeting people under 13. However, this must be complemented with compliance when people lie about it, or they put themselves at risk again. That is why the admins have a 0 tolerance policy on it. Many moderators do not enforce this strictly. However, they are not all in the USA and do not work for OS, so it is not like the mods really must enforce this. It is just best for OpenStudy of they do.
