A bag contains 9 black marbles and 1 white marble. What is the probability of the event that is complementary to the event of drawing a black marble from the bag? A. 1/10 B. 1/9 C. 8/9 D. 2/3 I know 9 + 1= 10 so it's 9/10 but I'm not sure what to do now, could someone help me?

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

well after you have drawn one black marble out of the bag how many would you have left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you draw one black marble out you'll have 8 left

OpenStudy (sydthekid913):

I mean total :)

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

Complementary events are two outcomes of an event that are the only two possible outcomes. In this case the only possible outcomes are: a) you draw a black ball b) you draw a white ball So, what is the event that is complementary to drawing a black ball?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmm, I don't really know. This is all new to me

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

You must have been taught something about this if you have been set a question on this. I just described for you what a complementary event means. Try to reason out what the complementary event to drawing a black ball would be.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

HINT: The complementary event to tossing a coin and getting heads would be tossing a coin and getting tails.
