Rules (old thread was taking too long to bump)
Music Group Rules brought to you by @Shadowfiend and @TuringTest The kinds of things that *are* allowed in this group: - Discussions and questions on musical theory. - Discussions and questions on instruments, instrumentation, composition, songwriting, etc. - Posting your own original work for feedback and criticism (as usual, please be respectful). Do NOT: - Post YouTube videos for other artists. - Post poems, they belong in the literature or writing section. - Post SoundCloud links for other artists. - Post questions about what people's favorite genres are. - Post an Artist's name and a song by them, (e.g. a question that contains just -something like "One Direction Kiss You") - Post song lyrics that are not yours - Poll questions (e.g. "Do you like this song?" "What do you think about this band?" etc.) - Questions like "What songs should I download?" "What's good music for a birthday party?" - Information about personal accounts is also apparently not allowed - Post rap battle threads - This is already covered in the CoC, but do NOT post anything with inappropriate subject material (use your best judgement)
@poopsiedoodle Thanks, I still have 1408 minutes till my next bump. http://openstudy.com/updates/54bbc216e4b0c3c33929ce01
1) Good, general rules already exist in the Terms and Conditions, and by reference, the Code of Conduct. These must be approved by a physical action in order to create an account. With some irony, super-abusers who love to create alternate accounts (to avoid suspension or just to fool around) must approve these rules each time they create an account. 2) There is no harm in posting rules in multiple locations. However, posting different rules in different places in inherently confusing. The Terms and Conditions will have to reference ALL other rules in some way in order for any user to be held responsible. 3) There is no valid argument based on prevalent noncompliance. Said another way, the fact that there are abusers does not mean others may abuse. There will always be abusers until they ALL decide to act with integrity. Without some level of voluntary compliance, based on integrity, there cannot be enough mods or admins. 4) The vast majority of OS users are perfectly willing to comply with the rules. The vast majority already comply without thinking, since most of the rules simply define how polite people would behave, anyway. 5) The biggest problem I see in OS is posting questions with no work shown. If I were to spend time and energy educating people in the proper use of OS, this is where I would focus, first. 7) The next biggest problem I see in OS is rampant abuse in the chats. Chats are constantly inundated by profanity, vulgarity, sexual content, spam, and pathological abusers who think it is their right - their claim to freedom - to ignore rules, abandon their integrity, and trample the rights of others. OS needs legal authority to terminate such users with cause. At present, it remains too difficult. My views. I welcome others'.

why arent we allowed to have rap battles?
here's one example, ruby
ohhhhh alright
So maybe rap battles should be allowed just no cursing?
It's a slippery slope that we'd like to avoid, so that probably won't happen any time in the near future.
