PLEASE HELP! A survey about the student government program at a school finds the following results: 190 students like the program 135 students think the program is unnecessary 220 students plan on running for student government next year. If a circle graph were made from this data, what would the measure of the central angle be for the group that likes the program? Round your answer to the nearest whole number.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many students are there total?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's all the information it gives..I'm guessing I just add them together right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

for starters, yess add them all up so you know how many there are, then we can determine the solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

545

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if all the kids stood around in a circle, then 545 would equate to 360 degrees 190 like them, so 190 wuold equate to how many degrees? 190/545 = d/360 solve for d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait how does it equate? I'm confused how to do this.. (and this is an essay question, shoot.)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many degrees are in a circle? how many kids are standing in a circle?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

both measurements define the same object, a circle

OpenStudy (amistre64):

they will have the same ratio, parts to parts. 190 out of 545 will be proportionate to d out 360

OpenStudy (amistre64):

woulnt you expect half the kids to make a half circle? a quarter of the kids to make a quarter of a cicle and so on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhh. ummmmm. Yeah I guess.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or if you take 360 degrees and divide it into 545 equal parts, and add up 190 of them we get: 190 * 360/545

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125.504(and a bunch of numbers after that)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep, rnd to the nearest whatever they want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 126.. is that the answer???

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that would be the answer i give them yes
