What is going on here. In Vander's Human Physiology, 13e, page 145, I saw this: (1 mV 5 0.001 V). Clearly, the author means = when he wrote 5. On page 146, I saw the following sentence: The magnitude of the resting membrane potential varies from about 25 to 2100 mV, depending upon the type of cell. In neurons, it is generally in the range of 240 to 290 mV. From the context, I know 2 should all be -. Can someone tell me why are these symbols represented by numbers and the correct correspondence. If you think this question belongs to be bio section, please reply too.
@perl any idea?
@amistre64 please come and help!!
From my exp, 1 is +, 2 is - and 5 is =. but I dont know why and any other correspondence?
@andrea238
@andrea238 , where are you?!
Are you using an electronic or print copy of the text? I've come across ebooks before with really bizarre formatting and typo errors that don't show up in the printed editions.
I am using ebook, so probably typo?
I would think so. I have a copy of a book on differential equations, and it's full of silly glitches like the ones you're describing, with numbers in place of symbols or letters.
