Tropic movements are in the direction of the stimulus. In tropisms, this response is dependent on the direction of the stimulus (as opposed to nastic movements which are non-directional responses). As I did not watch the video I can only comment on your questions. They are similar in that growth is required for the movement to occur. They are different in that tropic movement is directional and nastic is undirectional or random. Sunflower plants lit from one side will turn toward the light. When turned on their sides they will grow upward. Sunflower flowers face the sun throughout the day, which means they face east in the morning and west in the evening. The opening and closing of the morning glory flower is an example of a nastic response which is internally directed. The twining of the morning glory stem is an example of thigmotropism.
