The sign on the shoe store door said: "Ninety-nine percent of our clients are satisfied customers!" They based this on the comment cards left by customers. What could have happened to make this sample biased? The store clerks only gave comment cards to customers who were smiling when they left the store. Not enough comment cards were returned. The cards were only given to people who bought two pairs of shoes. Not enough comment cards were given out.

Each student in the sixth grade class was given a survey form to fill out. It asked their preferences about the kind of drinks that would be served with lunch. The choices were: white milk or chocolate milk. Chocolate milk was preferred 70-to-30 when the votes were counted. But when the students went to the cafeteria they discovered that orange juice was also on the menu. What statement below is true? The only drinks served with lunch are white or chocolate milk. If the students had been given the choice of orange juice, some of them may have voted for it. Even if orange juice was on the survey, no student would have voted for it. The majority of students would have chosen orange juice.

A movie theater conducted a survey to see what customers preferred at the concession stand. The theater asked every fifth person who entered the movie theater every Friday for a month what his or her favorite movie snack was. Were the results of the survey valid? No, because the theater did not use a random sample. Yes, because the theater only surveyed children. Yes, because the theater surveyed a random sample. No, because the theater did not survey everyone in the theater.
