Does the order you write squares in matter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example: (6x - 5)(x + 5) or (6x + 5)(6x - 5)

OpenStudy (bibby):

multiplication is commutative uv=vu

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i.e. no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but there are two answers, just written in a different order.

OpenStudy (bibby):

they're not the same answer. one of them has an x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow, 1'm dumb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

further proof that 1 am indeed, brain dead.

OpenStudy (bibby):

jk jk, you can pretend you were tired. I do that all the time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1've been doing math for 6 hours, 1 think that qualifies as brain dead. Thanks man. :)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

(6x - 5)(x + 5) or (6x + 5)(6x - 5) These two products are different, not because the order of the factors is different, but because the factors are not the same.
