Devaughn's age is two times Sydney's age. The sum of their ages is 51 . What is Sydney's age?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Let's introduce 2 variables for this problem: Let D = Devaughn's age S = Sydeny's age

Miracrown (miracrown):

Since Devaughn's age is two times Sydney's age, can you write an expression for this in terms of S and D?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Devaughn's age = 2 times Sydney's age. We're also told something about the sum of their ages being 51. Can you express this as an equation?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Solve these two equations to get to your answer D=2S S+D=51 You can substitute D=2S into S+D=51 and solve for S. And that is your answer. :)
