Help please i dont understand! Ill give medal! Create two different situations: one in which you use combinations and one in which you use permutations. Include specific details and an explanation about what makes each situation either a combination or permutation.

OpenStudy (phi):

compare figuring out the number of Lotto picks if it has 3 digits, and it can use any of 10 digits in any of the 3 positions versus you pick 3 people to be on your team out of a group of 10 people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi so i played soccer and the couch wants me to pick people and i pick 3 out of 10 people because they was the best.

OpenStudy (phi):

Let's assume you pick them randomly. How many different 3 people teams can you pick? the answer is 10 Choose 3 (notice if you had A,B,C,D, etc for the names, and you first pick A, then B then C, you get the same team as first picking C, then B, then A). In other words, order does not matter. that is why you use Choose: 10 choose 3 (this is a combination)

OpenStudy (phi):

but for a lottery ticket, if 123 is the winner, then 321 is not a winner. Here order does matter. you would use a permutation to figure out how many possible tickets there are.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (phi):

This explains how to do the permutations of 10 numbers http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinatorics/combinations-permutations.html
