The text below is from a speech given by President Franklin Roosevelt about European events in 1937: "It seems to be unfortunately true that the epidemic of world lawlessness is spreading. When an epidemic of physical disease starts to spread, the community approves and joins in a quarantine of the patients in order to protect the health of the community against the spread of the disease." Source: http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/7-2-188/188-07.html Which explains why the majority of Americans opposed Roosevelt's speech? Roosevelt discouraged U.S. involvement in the European conflict despite calls from former allies to become involved. Roosevelt argued in defense of fascist leaders in Europe, which angered citizens who believed in democratic principles. Roosevelt encouraged the U.S. government to remain neutral despite the rise of dictatorships in Europe. Roosevelt promoted U.S. intervention in the European conflict, which went against mainstream support of U.S. isolationism.

Give me a moment to think about this cause i remember this from 4th grade when i studied them

IF CALLING AMERICA isolationist in the 1920s and 1930s is wrong, ... Its alliances commit it to defend large swaths of Europe and Asia against foreign attack. ... from our shores is largely uncontested in the American political mainstream. .... aid, Americans urge cutting the former but want the latter to go up.

Once again the bugaboo of isolationism entered the mainstream ... to generate congressional support for air strikes against Assad's forces, that went far beyond what he considered as America's vital interests in Europe.
