Hmm...IF you look at the question, the first equation tells you the value of "y " right? It says " y = 3x - 5 " So you want to simply SUBSTITUTE " y = 3x - 5" into the second equation "4x+2y=-40 " (by substitute, it just means that wherever you see " y" , you would replace it with 3x - 5) After that, you want to solve for x. Once you get the value of x, you substitute the value of x ( x= ...) BACK into the first equation " y = 3x - 5" and therefore, you'll get your y value :)
