MEDAL FOR ACTUAL HELP:

OpenStudy (lexi724):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Am I checking the answer or what?

OpenStudy (lexi724):

helping as the question states

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im way wrong wow ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay hold on ill try

OpenStudy (igreen):

Set up a proportion..

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(\sf\dfrac{27}{3y + 3} = \dfrac{22.5}{3y}\) Cross multiply: \(\sf 27 \times 3y = (3y + 3) \times 22.5\)

OpenStudy (igreen):

Simplify and solve for 'y'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He is explaining it the correct way^ Listen to him(: Good Luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the figures are similar, then the ratio of the sides ST and SW are proportional, as well as the sides SV and WZ are. Being: \[\frac{ 3y }{ 22.5}=\frac{ 3y+3 }{ 27 }\] and cross multiplying you get \[81y=67.5y+67.5\], from which \[y=5\]. Replacing the y in the given side you get 3(5)+3=18, hence , the answer should be C.

@Hoslos Please do not give answers, it's against OpenStudy's Code-of-Conduct. We are here to guide the asker to the answer, so we need his/her participation. Please read the \(\bf\color{blue}{\underline{{\href{http:///openstudy.com/code-of-conduct}{Code-of-Conduct}}}}\) to learn more.

OpenStudy (lexi724):

^? really

OpenStudy (igreen):

After you find 'y' just plug it back into the equation of VS.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought I explained hear about the question and the topic and consequently showed the resolution.

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(\sf 27 \times 3y = (3y + 3) \times 22.5\) \(\sf 81y = 67.5y + 67.5\) Solve for 'y'

OpenStudy (igreen):

@Hoslos We are here to GUIDE the asker to the solution, there has to be PARTICIPATION of the asker before the answer is given. You just did all the steps for her..she could just take the answer and walk away not looking at your explanation.

OpenStudy (lexi724):

what i tried to do was so wrong http://www.cymath.com/answer.php?q=27*%3D3y(3y%2B3)*22.5

OpenStudy (igreen):

That's 27 * 3y

OpenStudy (igreen):

Not 27..

OpenStudy (igreen):

And it's just (3y + 3) * 22.5..there's no 3y outside the parenthesis.

OpenStudy (igreen):

What does it give you?

OpenStudy (lexi724):

5

OpenStudy (igreen):

Yes, and the equation for side VS was 3y + 3 So plug in 5: 3(5) + 3 Simplify

OpenStudy (lexi724):

3*5=15+3=18

OpenStudy (lexi724):

okay and you got the 81 and 67.5 how

OpenStudy (igreen):

I simplified: \(\sf 27 \times 3y = (3y + 3) \times 22.5\) 27 * 3y = 81y 22.5 * (3y + 3) = 67.5y + 67.5

OpenStudy (lexi724):

oh oh alright thank you.... its starting to click...onto my next question and @Hoslos i appriciate you helping as well and you had a good explaination but i reall ydont wasnt just answers im really no good at math and need alot of help along the way and im even worse at geometry and thats what i am currently in... i have 33 days to finsih this class and the better i learn the more i can get done on my own so thank you but next time leave out the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I gave a very brief explanation at start and followed by the resolution. I would anyway expect you to ask me about a part you did not understand. That is the methodology I use. If you notice, iGreen and I basically posted the same explanation and answers before you interrupted, hence I do no see a problem there. But if you prefer to post step by step while asking for your understanding, no problem. We are good.
