OpenStudy (davidmccune):

Isabelle figured out the mass of some materials for her science experiment. Sample A had a mass of 8.043 grams. Sample B had a mass of 0.21 gram. The mass of Sample A is how many times the mass of Sample B?

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

How do you think you should approach the problem?

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

I don't know I tried looking closely into the details and couldn't find out how to approach it

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

The problem is telling you that A = B * a number you need to find

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

So you need to find how many times does B fits in A

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

hmm so um I'm not much of an expert on math when I joined openstudy I thought you needed to choose witch subject you wanted to go to

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

but when do I start 0.21 over

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

What do you mean?

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

I can't explain I just really need help with mathematics :'(

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Sure, don't worry. You are in math group, in that you are right. First, before solving the problem, without looking the numbers, you need to understand the problem It tells you that you have two quantities. One has X grams, and the other one has Y grams. You know that X is bigger than Y. The problem asks you to find how many times do Y enter in X.

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

ok so I know that but while I'm doing that when do I add 1.00 to the quantity

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Why would you add 1.00?

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

I don't really know, could you type the full equation without the answer mabye I can figure it out from there

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Go slowly and calmed. Read the problem a few times, read what I said. If you can't answer it in 10 minuts (go slow), I'll help you

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

8.168?

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Let me check

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

How did you get that?

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

8*1 is 8 and 21*8 is 168

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

8.168

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

right or not

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

are you there

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Nope. You will find a number (you said 8.168). If you multiply that number by 0.21, you should get 8.043. You don't do this with your answer

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

ok ty your a great help I gave you a medal and fanned you

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

Use google to multiply :) Tell me if you find a better answer

OpenStudy (davidmccune):

I trust your answer ty

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

I did not give you the answer D:
