\(\huge \sf OpenStudy \ Tutorial\)

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

\[ \hspace{70pt}\huge \sf \text{Introduction} \] \(\bigstar\) \(\bf Openstudy\) is a website that was created by Preetha ram and Ashwin Ram and bunch of other people. OpenStudy is a global learning community - built for you and by you. You can simply ask a question and get online help from a variety of people from all around the world. OpenStudy is based on game mechanics. You answer questions and if your answer truely helps you get a medal and fan or fan testimonial. This way it keeps the site fun but educational. \(\bigstar\) \(\color{blue}{\bf How \ to \ us \ OpenStudy?}\) \(\bullet\) The Legendary Tutorial for New OpenStudiers... http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/543de42fe4b0b3c6e146b5e8 \(\bullet\) A video tutorial made by @wolfe8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDiiH8PItto \(\bullet\) A tutorial made by @factor http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5422b56be4b04c3544384f18 \(\bullet\) A tutorial made by @SolomonZelman http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53f756afe4b0010fcd96dfa7 \(\bullet\) A prezi tutorial of OpenStudy https://prezi.com/fs3hqdpcopic/an-unofficial-guide-to-openstudy/ \(\bullet\) A mini tutorial made by @Abhisar http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/548c04e1e4b0f2fbdc23dd6c \(\bullet\) A gif tutorial made by @sammixboo http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/548e7ee2e4b0f2fbdc265d6c

\[ \hspace{70pt}\huge \sf \text{Do you pay?} \] \(\bigstar\) \(\bf OpenStudy\) is free for all users to come and ask questions and get the help you deseve, but if you want really fast help on a question that cant wait anylonger, you can ask our Qualified Helpers. \(\bullet\color{blue}{\bf What \ is \ a \ Qualifed \ Helper?}\) A \(\bf QH\) are a small group of helpers that have been trained to help people and are patient, love to help other and expert at there topics. \(\bullet\color{blue}{\bf How \ much \ will \ it \ cost?}\) About $5. Users will buy OwlBucks through PayPal, and use them to pay for Ask a Qualified Helper. \(\bullet\color{blue}{\bf How \ will \ it \ work?}\) \(\bullet\) As the user types a question, the "Ask a Qualified Helper" button comes up with a description of the program. When the user clicks the button: \(\bullet\)If user does not have OwlBucks, they are asked to buy OwlBucks with PayPal or credit card. \(\bullet\)A new flag and a special background appears on this question, which tells everyone that this user has asked for a QH. \(\bullet\)A ping is sent to all the QHs in that subject who are online now with the url of the question, saying "Please go to this question to help the user." \(\bullet\) After a QH performs an action in the question, the asker is prompted to rate the QH. \(\bigstar\) \(\color{blue}{\bf How \ to \ become \ a \ QH?}\) Moderators and SmartScore 80 and above can apply to be Qualified Helpers. Non-moderator Qualified Helpers must: a. Have at least one title b. No suspensions c. Send in a ID d. Sign a agreement e. Go through the selection and interview process f. Go through training g. Commit at least 2 hours a day. Apply here to be a Qualified Helper: https://docs.google.com/a/openstudy.com/forms/d/14chWatcyhBZi9OazysshsDs6hWW5JmirpnFRjVF74ks/viewform \(\bigstar\) \(\color{blue}{\bf What \ are \ OwlBucks}\) OwlBucks can be purchased with PayPal or credit card. They can be used to purchase goods in Owlfred’s Emporium, including Ask a Qualified Helper, Tshirts, OpenStudy Transcripts, etc. Very soon we will be releasing the OpenStudy Emporium. With your OwlBucks you will be able to buy Tshirts, OpenStudy swag, OpenStudy Community Service Records, Transcripts and a whole lot more. Don’t have a PayPal account? Not a problem. PayPal takes credit cards as well. Don’t have a credit card? You can load a prepaid Visa with $20 and use that! \(\bullet\color{blue}{\bf Why \ are\ we \ Doing \ this?}\) OpenStudy’s mission is to provide free study help for the world. To do this right, we support our site through advertisements. OwlBucks will be another way to raise our revenues so we can keep the site free for all, and yet have enough to support new features, new servers and new development. And, most importantly, because it will be a lot of fun and in doing this, we can give something back to our best helpers!

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

\[ \hspace{70pt}\huge \sf \text{Smartcents & Increase it} \] \(\bigstar\) \(\color{blue}{\bf What \ are \ smartcents?}\) SmartCents is a way to recognize those experts and teachers in the area of their expertise. When you receive a medal, you will now receive an equivalent number of SmartCents. When you get enough medals in a certain group, you can unlock Titles with your SmartCents! :) If you lose your medals, your SmartCents will also be debited. But not to worry, you can always go gain more medals by helping more OpenStudiers. \(\bigstar\) \(\color{blue}{\bf How \ to \ increase \ your \ smartcents?}\) Every little thing you do on OpenStudy can increase your smartscore. It's how well you do these things to increase it. There's no fast easy way to increase it. It takes time. For the problem solving portion, you must answer questions not only in detail, but guiding the user to understanding the problem. Giving direct answers is not only not allowed, but it doesn't even help the user understand anything. Plus, direct answers don't increase your smartscore as fast as answering in detail would. Teamwork! One thing people consider to be somewhat hard to do. By gaining fans as well as fanning users, you are then increasing your smartscore even more! The more fans you earn, the higher you go. But be aware that creating accounts to fan yourself doesn't increase your smartscore by much. Also, it's not allowed and could lead to your main account being suspended forever. You best bet would be to enter chats, as well as help out a lot. Lastly we have engagement. Here is the fun part, when you ask questions you're increasing your smartscore! Isn't that cool? You can increase your smartscore just by making threads you need help on! Not to mention the amount of medals you earn and give out can help increase it faster! But keep in mind, spamming yourself with medals isn't allowed on here and will not increase your smartscore fast at all. Another thing about engagement is that the longer you're on here, the higher your smartscore goes too! It's as if almost everything on here will increase your smartscore. It can be fun and I hope you find it very fun too. I hope you have the best time on OpenStudy and good luck with the journey on here. c: ~ @beccaboo333

\[ \hspace{70pt}\huge \sf \text{Mod & Ambassador} \] \(\bigstar\) \(\color{purple}{\bf How \ to \ become \ a \ Moderator?}\) \(\bullet\) First rule: You must be 18+, due to legal issues. \(\bullet\) Second rule: You have to be, and act mature. Then you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. It is in big part based on participation, courtesy and respect. The most important thing is that you let the administrators and moderators know that you can see things going awry, and that you are willing to make some effort to solve/prevent it. And certainly NOT in a way like messaging them about how bad you want to be a moderator (this will only work contradictory), but they have to notice that you are up for the job. Then, when they decide they need more moderators, you might get asked. ◘ Being on the site for a fair amount of time. (usually more than 6 months) ◘ Be an good and active user on the site ◘ Having a squeaky clean abuse record. ◘ Have good rapport with fellow users. ◘ Having a good sense of justice. ◘ Being an expert in some field. Most of the mods are math geniuses. But any subject would suffice. ◘ Doing a great job in the ambassador program. In the ambassador training period, you'll learn how the rules work on OpenStudy and you'll learn how to make the right decisions. ◘ Hope you'll get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! ~thomaster \(\bigstar\) \(\color{purple}{\bf How \ to \ become \ an \ Ambassador?}\) Ambassadors are representatives of OpenStudy. We answer questions from new users. We welcome and greet users. It's our job to be the embodiment of OpenStudy's ideologies. Before I go any further, there are strict requirements you must meet. ◘ Be thirteen or older ◘ Have a form of ID - excluding a birth certificate ◘ Have no serious offenses on your record ◘ If you have serious offenses, an additional process may be required ◘ Have read the Code of Conduct and Terms, and understand the rules Do you meet these requirements? If so, then please read the next part of the process. There are some key behaviors that Ambassadors must express ◘ As an Ambassador, you agree to always be kind and understanding ◘ As an Ambassador you should let users know you appreciate them ◘ Congratulate and reward positive behavior, and discourage negative behavior ◘ Lead by example! ◘ Respect the staff - never talk ill of OpenStudy ◘ Never disclose personal information if shared with you Do you feel like Ambassadorship is something you would want to do? Do you want a bright future with OpenStudy? Then become an Ambassador! [NOTE: The application, or form, is often subject to change. A message will be posted in either the Ambassador Group or OpenStudy Feedback with details on how to submit an application] You can contact @e.mccormick , @thomaster , @shrutipande9 or @hartnn for additional Ambassador opportunities. form link: https://docs.google.com/a/openstudy.com/forms/d/14kZejqKJuYBxuRCxCjwa-rAUtScOYB6KTlrZDmYLTGM/viewform http://blog.openstudy.com/2014/01/30/openstudys-diplomatic-corps/ \(\bigstar\) I am sure you guys know the Code Of Conduct already but here is a link to it : http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

\(\bigstar\) Finally, if you do make a mistake, please be respectful to the moderators. \(\bullet\) Moderators are the users whose names are in purple. If you go outside the code of conduct, one of them will likely contact you. If they do, listen to what they have to say and be polite. \(\bullet\) If you are issued a temporary suspension because of a Code of Conduct violation, just wait until your suspension is expired. Go read a book, throw a football, unwind, and come back when the suspension is over. \(\bullet\) If you create new accounts to bypass a suspension, you will be permanently banned from the site. No questions asked. \(\bullet\) If you are permanently banned, or you feel you did not deserve a suspension that you were issued, feel free to email abuse@openstudy.com to discuss your suspension with one of the OpenStudy team members. Welcome! And thank you for being a positive member of OpenStudy.

Nicely done!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nice!! :)

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

thanks guys

thomaster (thomaster):

When we select ambassadors, moderators or qualified helpers we check your suspension and warning history for serious offenses. If you've been suspended by a moderator, a reason is written down by them and we review them on severity and chance of reocurrence. Being auto-suspended (too many abuse reports) is no ground for rejection (unless your history is filled with those of course). So it is not entirely true that you need to have a clean record in order to become an ambi/mod/QH.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

yea

Nnesha (nnesha):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

you dont need 90s to become mod but u need a valid ID to show like birth certificate, school ID etc @maimigirl

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Asking to become a mod decreases the chances that you'll become one. @MaimiGirl

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey ! just trying to be honest here ! Whom should I contact with the application ?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

If you don't want to submit an id, don't think of trying to become a mod or even an ambi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
